Is artificial intelligence really a threat, or just overrated?
A weighing of AI's benefits and dangers on human civilization.
History’s fictions are becoming reality. Can computers really replace people? Are they a threat to human civilization? Am I going to be jobless? What does it mean for my kids’ future? Artificial intelligence is nearly on everyone’s mind. Most afraid of the short-term, such as threatening job security. Or the long-term, like an AI endgame.
In my view, AI brings many benefits. It may aid in environmental issues, social issues, government decisions, and have massive educational benefits. However, with that comes many unethical and immoral uses, especially as AI advances. AI is only useful as the user. It’s also very limited. It lacks humanness—the emotional, spiritual, and sentience. It’s not a professional, nor experienced in life, but more akin to an interactive library of humanity’s recordings. Sort of a lifeless box that animates upon human interaction.
Conclusively, in my opinion, AI is overrated. I think it accurately captures humanity’s efforts to find meaning and purpose within creating things.
